DRESSING FOR YOUR BODY TYPE

We love fashion!  We love to look our best, don't we?  Have you even seen a big girl walking down the street and just want to go over and say "What the h*** are you wearing?"
Well, today I am playing fashion POLICE!

Everyone has his or her own style but there are somethings that should just be OUTLAWED!  (In my humble opinion.)
Leggings are big and very comfortable but be careful!  Depending on the fabric and stretch, they can accentuate lumps and bumps on your legs making them appear worse than they are.
NOT FLATTERING!

So, what can a big girl wear that is comfortable and looks good?

IDENTIFY YOUR SHAPE!

  1. APPLE
  2. PEAR
  3. HOURGLASS
  4. RECTANGLE (boyish or straight up and down with no defined waist)
NOW FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE RULES.

Draw attention to your waist with belts and dresses that pinch at the mid-section. If you have a straight shape, this is a must because it'll create the illusion of curves. If you have a pear or hourglass shape, this will accentuate your existing curves. If you don't think you have a waist, try empire tops and dresses

Elongate your legs. No matter what your body type, making your legs look longer is generally flattering.

  • If you're apple-shaped or straight-shaped, choose flared pants over straight-leg or skinny pants. It adds more "shape" to a straight body and it helps balance out wide shoulders and/or a heavy upper body. Stock up on miniskirts and bright tights to make the most of your great legs.
  • If you're pear-shaped and you are short (or have short legs), wear straight-leg or slightly flared pants with heels. Skinny pants that hug your ankles can make your lower body take on the appearance of an upside-down triangle. Flared pants can make your legs look very thick, perhaps bowl-legged, in comparison to your upper body.
  • Wear clothes with patterns that go down your body (especially your legs) and not across.

A great example of flattering dresses for an apple or a pear is an empire waist dress like these!

Choose your colors and patterns wisely. If there are any curves, handles, or lumps that you'd prefer to hide, wear solid dark colors (black, navy, dark purple) over them. Wear bright colors or patterns on your hot spots to draw attention away from your trouble spots!

Draw attention away from unwanted curves by enhancing a feature that is further away or you can cover it with dark colors.  Pick flattering pieces that you can mix.

REMEMBER, IT'S ABOUT FIT NOT SIZE....SO IGNORE THE TAG!

A wrap dress is almost universally flattering but works great with hourglass figures.

If you catch yourself dressing like this, go back and look at these examples.  Remember, you may be  heavier than these models but the rules still work.  There is no excuse to go out of the house looking like this.....

HAPPY FASHION!

THE MEDIA and being plus sized

The MEDIA.
There you are standing in front of a checkout line and there staring back at you is an airbrushed, almost anorexic looking model on the cover of a magazine.  The caption reads something like "How to get rid of that ugly fat!" or " How to look like a Hollywood star."

It's enough to make you want to go home and scarf down a dozen doughnuts or stop eating all together!
Society's standards have gotten worse over the years but there has always been the ideal of beauty being thin.  This has caused an unrealistic goal that those who try to meet it go into eating disorder tail-spins, or just bottom out their self-esteem.

Twenty years ago the average fashion model weighed 8% less than the average woman.
Today she weighs 23% less.
Question? How are we supposed to deal with that?

Answer:     Live by a different set of  standards based in reality, NOT airbrushed fiction!

Now, add the fact that the average american woman is a size 14!

BBW DATING!
What is different about BBW dating than "regular" dating?  First, I hate even using the word "regular" or "normal".  It makes it seem as if we aren't normal, when in fact we are a large chunk of the population (pardon the pun)!

I have been divorced for 11 years and have dated me from match.com and other "regular" dating sites as well as ones directed to the BBW and those who love us.  If haven't had much luck either way.
My standards are quite high since I do not want to repeat bad choices and I have a daughter to protect.
However, I have noticed that there is a fetish for bbws.  There are names for them like "chubby chasers" and they love the look of a larger lady.

I am struggling with wanting to be loved and accepted at this size but not wanting it to be a fetish thing. Especially if I want to lose some weight.  Does anyone else struggle with this.  I know there is a whole subculture of feeders, eaters, etc.  To me it is all about being desired and loved....but to what extreme?

I recorded some thoughts on the matter and would really like to hear back from you.  What are your dating struggles or successes?  Are there better dating sites than others?  Let me know.

One other issue I have encountered is the desire to be sexy on our online photos can sometimes go to far and look trashy.  In my opinion.  Do we as bbws try too hard?

What is considered a sexy bbw picture and what is trashy?  I think most of us have seen the bent over, show my butt pics.  What is that going to attract?  Ok, I am not a hater.  This is just my humble opinion, but if you are sending out a message like that, you know what kind of response you"ll get, right?
Sexy is great!  I am all about empowering oneself but you have to know where to draw the line.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I AM READY FOR HAWAII!
Today is about MAKE UP!  Yeah!  I used to be a cosmetologist and love to play with make up.  I have learned a few tricks and would like to share them.  I will also answer any question you have about you make up  routine.
We as bbws are beautiful, striking and sexy.  Make up is just a way to enhance that.  You can also change it up entirely depending on your mood.  I know there are those who don't really wear make up.  I would just say, give it a try!  Make it a fun time with color.  You would be surprised how much better you can look with just some mascara and  lip gloss
SHOW THE WORLD YOU ARE CONFIDENT IN YOUR SKIN!

 THIS IS ME!

I

Yep, not a skinny model but not a hedgehog either.  I am blogging about trying to find my place here in a society that clearly prefers the likes of this girl.  I am going to be posing questions, offering advice, including fashion, make up etc.  But most importantly, trying to find peace with myself as I try to get healthier (not about dieting per say) and still be confident and sexy while I am still PLUS SIZE.
NOT ME

Let's start with some questions.

  1. Can you be healthy and fat?  Answer:  By all studies I have found, the answer is yes!  However, being heavy is not as healthy as being at your normal weight.  Your organs have to work harder, you put more pressure on your joints and bones and have higher risks of diseases like diabetes and heart disease.  But I know from personal experience that I have good numbers for blood sugar and cholesterol and no issues with joints etc.  So it is possible to be  healthy and fat.
  2. Do you want to be fat?  Answer;  I don't!  However many enjoy being heavier.  Many men love it!  And I am trying to embrace it!
  3. Can fat be fashionable?  Answer;  I think we all know that the answer is YES!  Now we have so many options for sexy, trendy fashions that there is no reason on earth we have to run around in MU-MU'S (unless you like them).
